2014 Emerging Investigator Awards Program
We're excited to announce the launch of the 2014 "FightSMA/GSF Emerging Investigator Awards" program ("EIA Program")! The inaugural EIA Program in 2013 was a huge success among the vibrant SMA research community; filling a void in the research funding ecosystem, inspiring fresh approaches to the complex SMA research puzzle, and directly supporting a new generation of SMA researchers in the critical early stages of their careers. In 2013, the EIA Program funded $250,000 in research grants; five $25,000 grants were awarded to five investigators and two $62,500 follow-on grants were awarded to two of the initial five investigators. The 2014 EIA Program will follow a similar structure.
What is the structure of the 2014 EIA Program?
In April 2014, a grant selection committee will award five $27,500 grants to the five most promising proposals. After six months of validation, the five recipients will compete for two additional $62,500 grants covering one-year research projects. The $62,500 awards will be announced in December 2014.
Who is eligible?
Emerging investigators ranging from recent PhD graduates engaged in post doctoral fellowships up to assistant professors within the first two years of their appointment are eligible.
Past EIA Program applicants and grantees are eligible provided a new proposal is submitted.
