Nominate GSF

April 19, 2010 by Victoria Strong

We have so many exciting things happening at GSF! With your help we are collectively making a difference in the future of SMA. Thank you so very much for continuing to fight for the children impacted by this cruel disease!

In the coming weeks we are going to ask more of you. We are going to ask you to be involved in helping push groundbreaking SMA legislation through Congress. We are going to ask you to take part in fundraisers. And we are going to ask you to go the extra mile to help cure SMA.

Today we are asking you to do something FREE --> nominate GSF in the American Express Members Project. Every three months, the charity with the most votes in each of the five categories will receive $200,000 in funding from American Express. We are not currently in the contest -- and it is a long shot to get in -- but our hope is that with enough nominations GSF will be considered for the next voting period.

Please take a minute today to nominate the Gwendolyn Strong Foundation. Go here --> Nominate A Charity and then click "Suggest a charity"

Together we can end SMA!

*PS -- For "Location" we are in California. And you can nominate GSF as many times as you want!

Talk About It

For "location" - do we put Washington DC? I went to the site and nominated a few days ago, and when I submitted, I didn't receive any acknowledgement...like a "thank you" for participating, so I am not sure my nomination went through. Also, do you know if you are allowed to "nominate" more than once? Thanks.

I have the same question about location. Also, how often can we submit GSF? Everyday? Just once. You guys are awesome!

Well, I will be popping over everyday to place a vote!

Like Julie I didn't get a response to my nomination first time. So just in case I then hunted for a page on the site where I might be able to nominate, and found a link on here: http://www.takepart.com/membersproject/vote, 'Suggest a charity'. The same pop-up nominate window appeared, and when I submitted I got a response. I'm using this for the comment field: "The Gwendolyn Strong Foundation (GSF) seeks to raise awareness about and fund research for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), and support those impacted by SMA and other life-altering diseases. Spinal Muscular Atrophy is the #1 genetic killer of young children. It is a shockingly cruel degenerative disease which robs babies of 99% of muscular movement - including breathing and swallowing - whilst their mental and emotional faculties develop normally. SMA type 1 children are lucky to survive beyond the age of two years. SMA is estimated to occur in nearly 1 out of every 6,000 births. 1 in every 40 people, or nearly 10 million Americans, UNKNOWINGLY carries the gene responsible for SMA. SMA research is extremely mature and active: funds donated NOW would have a great chance of bringing an effective therapy for SMA in FIVE YEARS OR LESS. GSF founders, Bill and Victoria Strong, have firsthand experience with their precious daughter Gwendolyn who has SMA Type 1. They are personally and passionately dedicated to leaving no stone unturned. They are highly proactive and have achieved an incredible amount in their campaign during a short space of time, and have gathered global grassroots awareness and support. GSF is completely deserving of additional funds to further the search for a cure for SMA. www.gwendolynstrongfoundation.org"
