Upset tummy

February 28, 2009 by Bill Strong
Gwendolyn has had an upset tummy for the last several days. She's been lethargic, hasn't been sleeping well, and just has not been herself. She doesn't have a fever and her heart rate and O2 stats are normal. Victoria spoke with the doctor on Friday and he said a nasty, lingering stomach flu is...

Christmas dress shopping with Gramma

December 10, 2008 by Bill Strong

Gwendolyn has been doing well. She's been having a few mucus plugs over the last few days that are a bit concerning, but overall she's in great spirits so we're just watching her closely.

The Robinul is definitely helping her secretions. We're giving her 2mL doses twice daily via her g-tube and it...

I Don't Think I Like Teething Very Much

December 05, 2008 by Victoria Strong
I'm not sure what is going on, but Gwendolyn had an enormous meltdown today and it really scared me. She woke up from her nap and seemed a bit crabby, but then she hit the wall and hard. I gave her a treatment, it was about time anyway, because I thought she may have a plug making it difficult for...

What a Week!!!

November 22, 2008 by Victoria Strong
It has been one of those weeks -- one thing after another. It all started with the stress of the fire and, even after the evacuation warning had cleared, watching Gwendolyn closely for any signs of distress. Then on Monday we started construction work on our house. I wish I could say it was...

November 18, 2008 by Victoria Strong

We tried Gwendolyn in a "stander" yesterday and it was a disaster. The idea was to slowly elevate her over several days, but everything went haywire and the next thing I know I was plonking her in a bright blue thing elevated at 40 degrees. I supported her back, but Gwendolyn was immediately...

We're ok, but definitely on edge with this fire

November 14, 2008 by Bill Strong
It's been a very, very long night in the Strong house with the "Tea Fire" burning over the hills above us, the power off and on (more on than off though), no night nurse, water dropping helicopters buzzing extremely low overhead all night, and constant window gazing to see if the red glow from the...

Fire in SB; power outage take III

November 14, 2008 by Bill Strong

Gwendolyn is sleeping soundly, but our power, along with all of SB,
has been off and on tonight as a result of a fire that is burning in
the hills above SB -- this picture was taken during the power outage
and yes that is the fire burning in the hills beyond that candle. We
are fine for now, but...

Night Adventure

November 09, 2008 by Victoria Strong
Last night was a bit of an adventure. Thankfully, everything is fine and Gwendolyn is okay, but it was all a bit unnerving. It started with Gwendolyn being fussy and seeming uncomfortable almost from the moment we put her to bed. She didn't have much gas when we vented her, but she was squirming...

Concern update and changes…

October 25, 2008 by Bill Strong
Last week we were very concerned that Gwendolyn was coming down with a cold. We started a pretty aggressive antibiotic (Augmentin) and rested her on bi-pap almost 24/7 for several days. We're not getting any more sticky secretions and most importantly she seems to be back to herself again....

Concerned again…

October 18, 2008 by Bill Strong
We're very concerned once again about Gwendolyn. She had a good week, but over the last couple of days she just hasn't been herself. She's been lethargic and we've been getting some stickier, discolored secretions both orally and nasally. We're also battling with constipation on a more regular...

Lower heart rate at 1 year. Who knew???

October 09, 2008 by Bill Strong
Last week we noticed that Gwendolyn's heart rate, while awake and sleeping, was consistently 20-30 bpm's lower than in the past. For the past 12 months her heart rate has been 130-140 while awake and 110-120 while sleeping and her heart rate is now 110-120 and 90-100, respectively. At first we were...

Good News and Bad News

October 07, 2008 by Victoria Strong
Yesterday we did a day trip to Stanford to see Gwendolyn's Pulmonologist, Dr. Nanci Yuan, about our recent concerns. The good news is Gwendolyn does not have pneumonia or areas of atelectasis in her lungs. The bad news is the changes we are seeing are in large part because her chest wall is...

1st birthday eve

October 04, 2008 by Bill Strong

On the eve of Gwendolyn's 1st birthday, things are looking much, much,
much brighter in the Strong home. Gwendolyn started to perk up
yesterday evening and this morning she woke up bright and breezy and
ready to take on the world -- or at least enthusiastically ready for
some Mickey Mouse Clubhouse...

No change = good news

October 02, 2008 by Bill Strong
There was no change in Gwendolyn's condition yesterday, which is very good news. She's in good spirits, as usual, but is a bit lethargic. Nothing jumps out as a result of all of the tests, but the doctors think that Gwendolyn is most likely fighting her way through a small virus. When healthy,...

Our Brave Girl

October 01, 2008 by Victoria Strong
While Mommy and Daddy were a basket of nerves, this is Gwendolyn today thoroughly enjoying her time at the doctor because she got some new stickers!!! She is our brave, brave girl.

On edge tonight…

October 01, 2008 by Bill Strong
Gwendolyn is sleeping peacefully tonight and rightfully so after a very long, stressful day. After speaking with our doctors today about her struggles off bi-pap and through her cough assist treatments over the last few days, they were very concerned about her possibly coming down with an infection...

Sunday goodnight…

September 29, 2008 by Bill Strong

Gwendolyn fell asleep tonight holding hands with "baby" that one of
the social workers gave her months ago while in the hospital at
Stanford. Melts my heart...

We're a little concerned. This weekend she has definitely been
struggling more than usual while off of bi-pap. Hopefully it's just an...

Stanford Here We Come…

August 02, 2008 by Bill Strong

I just loved this picture of Gwendolyn...

Next week we'll be heading up to Stanford for a week to meet with Gwendolyn's amazing doctors, Team Gwendolyn smile We can't believe it's been three months already since we came home from our first trip up there. On one hand it feels like it was just yesterday...

Immunizations and Power Outages

July 03, 2008 by Bill Strong
It was an eventful day in the Strong household yesterday.

Gwendolyn had her third set of immunizations. She's now completely up to date with her shots and is on shot hiatus for several months now. I'm sure she's very happy about that smile She seems to be doing relatively well thus far after her shots...

A little concerned

July 02, 2008 by Bill Strong
While Gwendolyn has been and continues to be in great spirits, we're a little concerned about a few things we've noticed over the last couple of days. On Monday evening her oxygen stats dropped into the low 90's% several times for short periods of time -- something that we haven't seen in weeks....
