Team Owen is at it again and they are AWESOME!!!
February 01, 2012 by Victoria
On March 18th, Team Owen will once again trounce the New Bedford Half Marathon. And YOU can join them. Last year Team Owen had over 100 runners and raised over $15,000 for theGSF. And this year they are planning to do it again! Whether this is your first race (like it was for Owen's mom last year) or you are a seasoned pro (like team organizer and ultra-marathoner Stephen Taylor), all are invited to join Team Owen and "Run For Those Who Can't."

Organized by Stephen Taylor, Gillian and Claudia Sampson, and Andy, Heather, and Adyn Simmons, Team Owen is running in honor and in memory of a very special little boy, Owen Simmons. Owen had SMA. He also had a big smile that would light up the room. He adored his big brother, Adyn, and for 23 months filled the Simmons' home with his incredible spirit. Both during his life and since his passing, Andy, a policeman, and Heather, who recently became a nurse (ignited by her journey with Owen), have inspired countless friends and even strangers to get involved in the SMA fight. Their courage, determination, and positive outlook has made their community rally around them and want to help change the future of SMA. They NEVER GIVE UP.

Team Owen is already meeting up for training runs and many of the seasoned pros are happy to help coach those who need training tips. Yoga on Union is offering all Team Owen runners a special to help with much needed stretching. And the New Bedford Half race organizers are once again fully in support of Team Owen. Special shirts have been designed and ordered for all team members. And once again they are planning a fun celebration after the race. This year, Knucklehead Bar and Grill will host the party offering a full bar, buffet, raffles, and, of course, a great time.
So sign up. Be part of Team GSF by joining Team Owen in the New Bedford Half Marathon. Contact Stephen Taylor, register for the race, set up your fundraising page and you are good to go!
Thank you Team Owen. You are awesome!
