theGSF’s Project Mariposa Receives $10,000 Grant; Program Will Grant 100 iPads This Year

Once again, goal set, goal achieved! At the beginning of 2012 we committed to granting 50 iPads to those with SMA. Well, we've done that. And now we're doubling that commitment and will be granting 100 -- yes, 100 iPads! Simply awesome!

We are beyond thrilled and humbled and proud to announce that "Project Mariposa" -- a program of the Gwendolyn Strong Foundation (theGSF) -- will be granting 100 iPads this year! Yes, 100 iPads to those with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). We launched this support program with funding secured to grant 50 iPads. And last Friday marked our 50th iPad grant. 50 people with SMA are now able to use technology to open their world and help with tasks they could not do before. 50 worlds are becoming a little more accessible with this incredible technology. {Read their stories to be moved and inspired}

Over the last six months, Project Mariposa has steadily grown because of the generosity of our supporters. From lemonade stands to rummage sales, from schools holding events to businesses donating percentages, from 5K runs to marathons, from theGSF NEVER GIVE UP. merchandise sales to individual donations -- every effort makes a difference and has allowed us to grow all of our programs and help more people in need of these life-changing devices. The total cost of each iPad grant is approximately $500, an expense many simply cannot afford. And each iPad granted literally changes a life. THANK YOU to all those who have hosted fundraisers, who have donated, and who continue to support theGSF. We simply CANNOT do it without your support and enthusiasm.

We are also thrilled to announce the Thisbe and Noah Scott Foundation (TNSF) has awarded theGSF $10,000 in sponsorship of Project Mariposa! Because of their generous support we were able to grow Project Mariposa even further. We are so honored to partner with an organization like TNSF, a leader in the fight against pediatric neuromuscular disease.

The Thisbe and Noah Scott Foundation's primary aim is research, support and awareness for pediatric neuromuscular diseases (NMD).

Project Mariposa has a simple mission: to make the world more accessible to those with severe disabilities through targeted technology product grants. Mariposa is butterfly in Spanish -- theGSF's signature symbol -- and like a butterfly emerging from it's cocoon, Project Mariposa is helping those with disabilities to spread their wings.
