Two years ago
I washed your tiny new clothes,
decorated your nursery, watched Daddy
put together your little furniture and toys,
and wondered if we had all the right things for you
as we awaited your arrival...

Two years ago
I worried about breastfeeding, labor,
and all the things I had yet to do and
I was anxious about not just being a mother,
but being a good one...

Two years ago
My water broke at home and I knew
life was about to change in mere hours
(it was 14 to be exact).
The thought of finally meeting you
left me excited and calm...

Two years ago

I held you in my arms for the first time
(all 6 pounds, 9 ounces of you).
You cried until I spoke to you and your eyes, blurred and unfocused,
searched until you found my gaze.
And I knew right then, as we smiled at one another,
that I'd known you all along
and nothing else mattered...
