Career Day

February 23, 2011 by Victoria

Our little girl...oh our sweet little girl...expressed what she wants to be when she grows up!

It was "career day" at preschool -- a loose term (it's only preschool after all). But none-the-less there was talk of what the children want to be when they grow up. A simple enough question, but one that, well, makes me all throat lumpy for so many reasons -- and mainly because Gwendolyn was so very clear in her choices. All the children were given about 25 different stickers of "careers" to then decorate their little paper person with. Gwendolyn eyed each one seriously. She passed by the paleontologist. She skipped the chef. No interest in the scuba diver. But...when she saw the nurse she immediately said, "Guh! Guh!" We feel so proud. But she wasn't finished. She went through several other stickers and when she came to "researcher" again she enthusiastically said, "Guh! Guh!" She was busily decorating her paper people with her chosen professions and began watching what her friends were choosing and pretty soon she also wanted to be a ballerina!

I know... I'm crying. All of it! She's our nurse-researcher-ballerina! And we want all of that and more for her!

Talk About It

Perfect combination of brains and beauty!! smile

What a very special moment for all of you. I was throat lumpy reading your story. How thoughtful Gwendolyn was about choosing her careers. And yet, how profound those choices were. Hugs to you guys!

It's a proud day for nurses everywhere! I have no doubt that Gwendolyn wants to be a research nurse that cures SMA then turns ballerina smile What a fantastic moment.

You should be so proud- such noble and giving professions. In a way she is a researcher- because of her groundbreaking research is occurring. And, ballerina, perfect for a three year old girl! Tears here too

What? No Zoo Keeper!? grin Just kidding. What a wonderful story. Once again, Gwendolyn made my evening. Might I recommend Mimi's favorite YouTube channel, The Anaheim Ballet. Their videos are terrific. We've watch the Magic Tutu about 80 times thus far. http://www.youtube.com/user/AnaheimBallet?blend=1&ob=0

Wow, so profound for your big girl! How could we all not need our Puffs box??...... Such hope and determination in a small package. Here's adding to the thousands of prayers for a cure..... since SMA will be cured by the time Gwenolyn hits the work force maybe she will tackle cancer..... and then take a spin on the ballet floor...... hugs sweet girl........ you make us all be better people!
